Women Accused of Stealing Dogs
Recently two women have been arrested for stealing a family's puppies while they were out of town in an attempt to sell them.Police say the ladies Cynthia Durham, of the Van Zandt County Humane Society, and Patricia Junk, of Jackson County, Wisconsin, conspired to steal two blue heeler puppies from Durham’s neighbor, and then adopt them out through Junk’s animal rescue in Wisconsin. Evidence shows that Durham may have been planning to steal the dogs, Davi and Pepper, for days in order to sell them for $300 each.
The puppies have been apart of the Jeremy Housden’s family since last Christmas and were a gift to his three children. When the family went out of town on vacation in July they dogs were left with a sitter and mysteriously disappeared. “I actually had one neighbor that had spotted a woman in front of my house,” Housden said. “He did say he’d seen the dogs in the front yard playing, and when he came back by, the car was still there, but there were no dogs.”
Housden didn’t give up looking for his families beloved pups. He enlisted the help of Constable Jesse Ison. After Housden asked around one name would come up: Cynthia Durham. Later Ison questioned her and she admitted that Davi and Pepper had been taken all the way to Wisconsin and were in the care of Patricia Junk, who also ran an animal rescue.
The dogs were listed up for adoption on Junk’s Unchained K-9 Rescue and Rehab Facebook page and given new names.
Constable Ison made the long 15-hour drive to Wisconsin to bring the dogs back and both women have been arrested and charged with theft of property between $750 and $2,500. Since their arrest, authorities are getting more calls from people about their stolen pets. They’re unsure if any are related to this case, but they are investigating.
A Happy Reunion
There is a reason for celebration in this awful situation. On Sunday, August 11th, the Housden family was reunited with Davi and Pepper thanks to Constable Jesse Ison. Ison made the drive to Wisconsin to bring the dogs back to the family in southeast Dallas. “We look for days like this because they're not very often, and I'm sure I'll cherish this for a while just seeing the looks on the kids' faces,” Ison said.Because Housden was persistent in finding his family’s dogs and Constable Ison was willing to make the drive, they were able to be reunited before being sold or adopted.
